Mark Twain's The Stolen White Elephant

Leicester Guildhall, Leicester • Sunday 7 February 2027 • 14:00

Mark Twain was a comic genius, the greatest American humorist of the 19th century, and in literary terms of all time.
Best known for Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, our company will instead be showcasing one of his funniest short stories.

This is The Stolen White Elephant. It’s an absurdist masterpiece, with Inspector Blunt and his detectives being in hot pursuit of an elephant on the loose.

Stanley the Manc, whose elephant it is, puts all his faith in them.

Stanley the Manc (Andy Dickinson) is a writer, performer, producer, based in Edinburgh. His comic play Shackleton and his Stowaway was published by Methuen. It was an Ed Fringe Sold Out show in 2018, and also Sold Out at Park 90, London, in 2020. For 2022 he created/adapted Tam O’Shanter, Tales & Whisky, featuring the ‘Gothic’ poems of Robert Burns, which played at the Traverse, The Gaiety Theatre, and The Brunton Theatre, in Scotland.
