For most of her life, Mary Cross was the star witness in the case of “How to Fit In.”
Northern. Gay. Church-going. Straight-A student. Party girl. Barrister. Comedian. Mum.
Each role performed flawlessly. Each one slightly rehearsed.
But last year, Mary received a diagnosis that reframed everything and now she’s taking the stand.
In Cross Examination, Mary uses her legal training to interrogate the evidence of her own life.
When did the masking begin?
Was being a “social chameleon” a survival strategy… or a superpower?
And what happens when the performance finally stops?
Blending painfully funny stories, 90s/00s dancefloor anthems, and fearless self-reflection, Mary charts her journey from outsider child to high-achieving professional to midlife truth-teller. This isn’t just a coming-out story. It’s a coming-home story.
Uplifting, nostalgic and gloriously unfiltered, Cross Examination is for anyone who has ever edited themselves to survive — and is finally ready to live out loud.
Court is in session and YOU get to give the verdict.
Mary Cross, a.k.a. the Punning Linguist, is a high energy stand-up comedian, storyteller, MC and host, entertaining audiences with stories, songs and linguistic acrobatics
