Growing up, Stuart didn’t see many fat men on screen. The ones he did see lived up to all the usual boring stereotypes. Then he discovered John Candy, a fat man who got to be kind, funny, human and, crucially, the lead.
I Like Me is Stuart’s big-hearted, filthy-funny love letter to the man who made him want to do comedy. It’s a show about growing up fat, finding your heroes and deciding you quite like yourself, thank you very much.
Along the way you’ll hear about his devotion to all things Premier Inn, his mum’s army of murderous miniature Shetland ponies, a record-breaking grandad with a serious potato habit, and the trials of being a teenager with dial-up internet. There’s even poetry worthy of Dylan Thomas.
Following a run of comedy competition finals, including Frog and Bucket’s Beat the Frog World Series and runner-up at Nodding Dog New Comedian, this is one fat bloke’s shot at being the main character for an hour.
“A window into the soul of an unashamed fatty and into the soul of a shameless society” (Buxton Fringe)
“Impressive as it was impeccable” (Notts Comedy Review)
“Made me laugh a lot” (The Scotsman)
