Robert is a cabaret performer, musical director and composer. He is particularly interested in old, forgotten and flop musicals in the West End. As a qualified teacher and trained actor, he has taught at drama schools and currently lead workshops and direct pantomimes for City Academy in London. He also gives musically-illustrated talks....

Graham John Bickley (born 18 May 1958) is an English actor and singer. He is best known for playing the role of Joey Boswell in Bread from 1989 until 1991, taking over from Peter Howitt, who originally portrayed the character from 1986 until 1989. Career Bickley made his West End theatre debut in 1981 in They're Playing Our Song. He went on to perform in the ensemble cast of the Pirates of Penzance in 1982. Since then, he has appeared in West End musicals such as Jukebox, Metropolis (1989), Which Witch (1992), Maddie (1997), The Pajama Game (Best Actor nomination, Toronto), Les Misérables (as Enjolras and Marius), Miss Saigon (as Chris), and Sunset Boulevard (as Joe, playing opposite Petula Clark). He played Tateh in the 2003 London premiere of Ragtime and was nominated for the Laurence Olivier and The Whatsonstage Award for Best Actor in a Musical. In 1989, Bickley replaced Peter Howitt in the role of Joey Boswell on the BBC sitcom Bread. He played the role for three series, appearing in 35 episodes.[5] Bickley has also appeared in regional theatre productions, including Sleuth, No Trams to Lime Street (Best Actor nomination, Manchester), the UK première of I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change and the world première of Black Goes With Everything. His revues include Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris and It's Better With a Band. On the concert platform, Bickley has performed with orchestras throughout the United Kingdom, Europe and South America, including The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, The London Symphony, The City of London Sinfonia, The National Symphony, The Northern Sinfonia, The Royal Scottish National, The Hallé, The City of Birmingham Symphony, The RTÉ Concert, The Gothenburg Symphony, The Iceland Symphony and The São Paulo Symphony. With conductor Carl Davis, Bickley performed a series of concerts with The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, The Hallé, The City of Birmingham Symphony, the Bergen Philharmonic in Norway and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. He has appeared in concert performances of Leonard Bernstein’s Wonderful Town playing the role of The Wreck with The Rotterdam Philharmonic, and Guys and Dolls, playing Nathan Detroit with The Vienna Konzerthaus, both conducted by Wayne Marshall. Bickley has also appeared in concert arena productions of Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita. Bickley has also sung in the studio casts for Phantom of the Opera (1995) and Kiss Me, Kate (1996).[6] Bickley regularly appears with the BBC Concert Orchestra. His concerts include Guys and Dolls, playing Nathan Detroit, On The Town, playing Chip, and a new musical version of Peter Pan, all at The Royal Festival Hall and recorded for broadcast on BBC Radio. Other live concert performances for BBC Radio include Bitter Sweet, Radio Rhapsody, and Big Band Special with the BBC Big Band, and many appearances as guest vocalist on BBC Radio 2’s Friday Night is Music Night. In 2000, Bickley made his début at the BBC Promenade Concerts at The Royal Albert Hall, performing in Kurt Weill’s Street Scene and a 70th birthday tribute for Stephen Sondheim. Bickley completed two seasons for Grange Park Opera: Billy Crocker in Cole Porter’s Anything Goes (2002), and Robert Baker in Leonard Bernstein’s Wonderful Town (2004). He was a guest artist for a gala concert in Leeds with Lesley Garrett and the Opera North Orchestra, and with orchestrator Martin Koch, he produced a concert to celebrate the work of Nelson Riddle, with The BBC Concert Orchestra and transmitted live on BBC Radio 2. Throughout 2005–06 Bickley undertook a national tour of Cole Porter’s High Society playing the role of C.K. Dexter Haven,[7] culminating in a season at The Shaftesbury Theatre in the West End. His concert engagements in 2007 included Good Thing Going, a celebration of the music of Stephen Sondheim at Cadogan Hall, and The Best of Broadway, two concerts at The Royal Albert Hall, both with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. He also performed in several gala concerts celebrating the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein, and was a special guest for Barbara Cook's 80th birthday concert at The London Coliseum: Barbara Cook and Friends. Quick-witted, acid-tongued and filthy-minded, the dandy prince of cabaret, Joe Morose is one of the UK’s most sought after comperes and artists. He performs weekly in London’s top cabaret, burlesque and variety venues as well as up and down the country and across Europe. A renaissance man for the snap-chat generation, he is a performer, writer, director, composer and more. A Joe-of-all-trades, if you will. The Stage has called him “irrepressible", the Guardian; “impishly spiteful” and one person on TripAdvisor; “about as funny as syphilis”, but you can’t please everyone. Although he craves a rags to riches story, Joe didn’t crawl from the gutter to the stage, he just sauntered vaguely towards it and refused to leave. Following in the footsteps of his hero Noël Coward, Joe moved to London, trained at The Italia Conti Academy, worked extensively as a professional actor on London’s West End and then began performing cabaret at The Cafe De Paris, with a few more things and a few less years in between. All that’s left is getting a knighthood, which although he’s spent a lot of time on his knees in front of queens, isn’t on the cards. He burst onto the London Cabaret Scene in 2013 and within a year was nominated as Best Compere at the London Cabaret Awards, had residencies at the Cafe De Paris and Proud Cabaret (London’s top two venues) and had hosted the ill-fated show Burlesque: On Ice. How he got involved in the last one, he’s still not sure, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. In the ensuing years, he has become infamous in what is, let’s face it, quite a niche market, but it has brought with it incredible opportunities. He’s played in historic venues such as The London Hippodrome, The Royal Vauxhall Tavern and the now sadly in absentia Madame Jojo’s in Soho. Working commercially, he has hosted corporate events for AX Paris, Sony, Reebok, Bumble, John Lewis, Topshop and Harrods amongst others. In amongst that he has also compered private events for the likes of Alan Carr, Ant and Dec, FKA Twiggs and charities such as CALM, Mind and The British Heart Foundation. He is, in his own words, “excellent at all of it and a right laugh.” Equally at home in front of 20 drinkers in an underground London bar, or 2000 revellers in Europes most glamorous concert venues, Joe is the perfect combination of the bygone age of vaudeville and a super-sharp comic for today’s modern music-hall. ​​ Morose, is not his given name, it's the opposite of nominative determinism. His human alter ego is the much less renowned actor Joe Morrow, as in "the sun'll code out..." ​ As an actor he’s appeared on film, television and in theatre both regionally and on the West End, where he originated the roles of The Cat In The Hat in the UK premier of ‘Seussical’ and Ferripoti in ‘NotMoses’, played Joe in the hit TV sitcom Hapless and Sean in the upcoming feature film Perfect Wedding Days. ​ As a composer he worked for Grindstone Theatre on their Jack the Ripper musical ‘RIP’ and scored 5 pantomimes for Such Stuff Productions. He has directed numerous productions including a stint with the world’s longest running sketch show NewsRevue at the Canal Cafe Theatre and the tour of the musical Spring Awakening for Stairway Theatre Company. ​ Since 2024 he has been resident Cabaret Director for The Lost Estate - "London's Immersive Heavyweights". While there he's written and directed for their shows "Belle Livingstone's 58th Street Country Club" the 1930s Jazz experience and "Paradise Under The Stars" - A journey back to 1950s Havana set in the famous Club Tropicana. for 2026 he played the role for Rodolph Salis in the 5 star smash hit CHAT NOIR! which he also worked on as writer and director. ​ He has been Cabaret Director at Bunga Bunga (Covent Garden and Battersea), Barrio Covent Garden, Circes Rooftop Waterloo and was the writer/director of the award winning “The Silencing of Miss Scarlet” which played in London and Brighton for two years. He has been guest curator of a number of shows at Cafe De Paris and has created bespoke shows at numerous venues all across the capital....
