What happens when a comedian hands over control of his show to artificial intelligence?
In I Get ChatGPT to Write My Edinburgh Show, Tom Short lets the audience provide the inspiration, feeds their ideas into ChatGPT, and then has to perform the comedy it creates – live.
Every performance is completely different. The audience help shape the show, AI attempts to understand what humans find funny, and Tom is left dealing with whatever bizarre material, characters, routines and ideas the machine throws at him.
Part stand-up show, part interactive experiment and part technological disaster, it’s a comedy show being created in real time in front of you.
The show debuted at the 2026 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where it received ★★★★★ from Phoenix Remix and ★★★ from The Scotsman, alongside nominations for the ISH Edinburgh Comedy Awards and Comedians’ Choice Awards.
